Think of a still as an experiment you keep running. Copper carries the heat and works on the vapor, while you control the flame and decide when to make your cuts. A word on the law
A still is legal to own in the US. Making spirits with it requires federal TTB permits, and fuel alcohol needs a permit as well. Many owners use their stills for water or essential oils. Whatever you distill, follow federal, state, and local law.
